CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. (NEWS10) - National Work Zone Awareness Week kicking off today and NEWS10 talking with local tow companies on how they are making roadways safer.Tow truck drivers are essential to motorists in need, but they put their lives at risk on each call. Indigenous Mascot Advisory Council’s review process KJ Sterns Towing in Wilton is taking safety to the next level of awareness, and it’s called the Attenuator. Vice President Joseph Ernst explains what that is.“It's going to slow down the people. it'll slow the traffic down and in the event that somebody does hit it it's designed to take the energy from the accident. So, it doesn't push that truck into our people or anybody that would be working in the in the nearby you know surroundings,” said Ernst. “Drivers on highways have been very respectful to it. They see it, and they do move over; it seems to be working very well so far.”Towaway Towing of Saratoga Springs lost a driver last September when he was killed by...Where to bike around the Adirondacks

The players finished eating but stayed seated in the Four Seasons hotel meal room. They knew the drill.Jared Bednar had called a team meeting last spring when the Avalanche landed in St. Louis after a demoralizing Game 5 loss. With an off day in the late stages of a tense second-round playoff series, the coach wanted to check on his team’s headspace.“We didn’t want a repeat of Vegas,” he told The Post.A year earlier, the Avalanche coughed up a 2-0 series lead to the Golden Knights — their third consecutive year getting eliminated in the second round. So when they started to show cracks in the armor with a two-game lead over the Blues, memories came flooding back. The Avs led a potential close-out Game 5 at home in the final minute. It was the closest they had come in Bednar’s tenure to exorcising the second-round demons. Flying back to St. Louis for Game 6 felt as far as they’d been.“He really wanted us to get over that hump,” forward Andrew Cogliano recalled...Kiszla vs. Gabriel: Should the Broncos trade up, back or stay put in next week’s draft?

Kiz: It’s awfully quiet down at Broncos headquarters, and I don’t know if that’s because new coach Sean Payton is anti-social or he doesn’t have anything good to say about the upcoming NFL draft. As we all know too well, Denver is stuck with only five picks after emptying the cupboard to acquire quarterback Russell Wilson and Payton. So I will ask you: With no pick prior to No. 67 overall in the third round, how many rookie starters can general manager George Paton give Payton in this draft?Gabriel: Oh, right, the Broncos. The local football team, right? It has been a quiet stretch outside the Dove Valley headquarters, though the team is a week into offseason Phase 1 and just more than a week from (mostly a guess here), the least exciting draft in recent memory for the Broncos? Five picks, all in Round 3 or later. But hey, Paton has been good in the third round so far through his first two drafts in Denver. His three picks: Quinn Meinerz and Baron Browning in...Los Angeles County D.A. reviewing Armie Hammer sexual assault claims: Report

Commuter train routes between Orange County and San Diego have resumed Monday after repairs to the track.During the six-month long repairs, frustrated commuters had to get off the train at the Irvine Metrolink station, take a bus to Oceanside and get back on the train to get further south.Last summer, a section of train tracks in San Clemente was shut down due to stabilization issues. “Emergency repair work had to be done in order to stabilize the tracks and make sure there is no movement in the track itself,” Jason Jewell, managing director of the Lossan Rail Corridor Agency, said. The work affected Metrolink and Amtrak Pacific Surfliner passengers. In February the tracks were considered stable enough to resume weekend service, months ahead of the weekday service resuming Monday. As part of this reopening, Amtrak is offering a 30% discount on the Pacific Surfliner route. To use it, you have to buy the tickets this week and use them by the end of May.Latest news
