PARIS (AP) — The Palace of Versailles and three airports in cities across France were evacuated for security reasons and temporarily closed Wednesday, the latest in a spate of evacuations in the past five days around France. The former royal chateau of Versailles apologized to visitors for forcing them to evacuate from the sumptuous 17th-century palace “for security reasons.” The tourist attraction said on X, formerly Twitter, that it reopened hours later after checks. It was the third time since the weekend that the palace had to evacuate visitors. Meanwhile three airports in the cities of Lyon, Toulouse and Lille received emailed threats Wednesday, police said, without elaborating on the nature of the threats. DENVER (KDVR) — One person was killed in an early morning shooting in the Five Points neighborhood on Wednesday.Just after 1:34 a.m. on Oct. 18, Denver Police responded to a shooting in the 2300 block of North Broadway. FOX31 went to the scene where there were several homeless encampments set up along the sidewalk.When officers arrived at the scene, they found one victim. At that time, the person's extent of injuries was unknown. DENVER (KDVR) — With over two months left in the year, the pedestrian death toll is already close to an all-time high in Colorado, and the Colorado Department of Transportation expects those numbers to keep rising during the winter months.The pedestrian death toll in Colorado increased by 12% over the last year, CDOT tweeted.To put that into perspective, by Oct. 17, 2022, there were 85 pedestrian deaths. As of Oct. 17, 2023, there are already 97 deaths, according to CDOT. Denver ranks high among cities with the largest homicide rates In the early 2000s, there were around 40 to 70 pedestrian deaths a year. Throughout the past few years, the deaths have been steadily increasing. A 42-year-old Miami man is facing a series of serious charges after a disturbing incident at a Jewish school in Miami Beach, officials said. On Tuesday, at around 9:30 a.m., Alier Ojedasalas was detained after allegedly making threats to plant explosives at the school. According to the arrest report, the incident unfolded when he approached the school’s security guard, who was wearing traditional Jewish attire, including a yarmulke. Salas, who later identified himself as belonging to Hamas, pointed to a plastic bag he was holding, claiming it contained C-4 explosives, a known destructive device.
