Should the Antioch City Council hire the city’s next police chief or should the city manager make the appointment as has been done in the past? That’s the question the City Council will answer at its next meeting on Tuesday when it considers whether to move forward with a proposal to give council members the authority to hire, supervise and remove the police chief. Currently, the council hires the city attorney and the city manager, who in turn appoints and supervises the chief. The idea of the council taking an active role in hiring a chief first emerged in 2020 and during discussions on police reform in 2021. Later that year, Mayor Lamar Thorpe and Mayor Pro-Tem Tamisha Torres-Walker, during a police oversight standing committee, asked staff for a draft of a police chief hiring process. The proposal included having a community representative from each district taking part in the hiring process, with the council ratifying the contract. But by 2022, the FBI and District Attroney’...21 Donald Trump election lies listed in his new indictment

By Daniel Dale | CNNWashington — Special counsel Jack Smith said Tuesday that the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol was “fueled by lies” told by former President Donald Trump. The indictment of Trump on four new federal criminal charges, all related to the former president’s effort to overturn his defeat in the 2020 election, lays out some of those lies one by one.Even in listing 21 lies, the 45-page indictment does not come close to capturing the entirety of Trump’s massive catalogue of false claims about the election. But the list is illustrative nonetheless – highlighting the breadth of election-related topics Trump was dishonest about, the large number of states his election dishonesty spanned, and, critically, his willingness to persist in privately and publicly making dishonest assertions even after they had been debunked to him directly. Here is the list of 21.1. The lie that fraud changed the outcome of the 2020 election, that Trump “had actually won,” and that the el...Lil Baby brings concert tour with GloRilla to Oakland, Sacramento

The listing agent told me a lease has been signed, so stay tuned as we learn what’s next for this famous locale. Perhaps some bright young chef, with considerable financial backing, will once again turn the lights on and fire up the stove?Meanwhile, at another David Kinch-owned Los Gatos restaurant, The Bywater is listed in the 2023 Michelin Guide and has a new summer menu, live music on Saturday nights and Happy Hour daily. No update is available on The Junction, Kinch’s project affiliated with the North 40 development.Wondering what happened to the former location of Manresa Bread, I discovered that OY! Gluten-free Bakery, opened by Yvonne Khananis (Grocer + Goddess, Polentaria), has moved in. Among the items on offer were gluten-free sausage pizza ($40 for a sizable square pie), Italian dinner rolls ($4) and both rustic Italian bread and rosemary focaccia for $1...Suspect who pushed elderly woman to ground in SF arrested for attempted homicide

But the 45-page indictment’s description of “Co-Conspirator 4” matches Clark, who comes across as the most cinematic villain in the latest criminal conspiracy laid out by special counsel Jack Smith. KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) — Jamaica’s “Reggae Girlz” gave their small island nation even more reason to celebrate its upcoming Independence Day on Sunday after the national soccer team drew with Brazil 0-0 to advance to the last 16 of the Women’s World Cup.The country’s sports minister, Olivia Grange, described Wednesday’s performance as “undoubtedly the proudest moment so far in Jamaica’s football history.” But some supporters also criticized the lack of support for the team before the tournament with family, friends and fans having to help cover expenses by crowdfunding.Grange reacted minutes after Jamaica ended Brazil’s hopes at the World Cup. “I could not help shedding a few tears. Tears of joy,” Grange said on Instagram. “These have been magnificent performances by the Reggae Girlz for Jamaica in this World Cup. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Calvin Ridley switched cleats Wednesday to alleviate toe soreness.Coach Doug Pederson initially said Ridley would be limited in training camp because of his achy toe, but Ridley found a solution by wearing different shoes. He responded by taking part in every practice drill, although he dropped at least four passes.Ridley left practice early on Tuesday, took off his shoulder pads and shoes and chilled on a metal bench. The Jaguars provided no update on him until Pederson addressed reporters before practice Wednesday.“Just sore. He’ll be fine,” Pederson said. “We were sort of cautionary with him (Tuesday). He’ll be back out there today and we’ll just monitor him and limit the amount of running he’ll do.”Ridley was the clear star during Jacksonville’s first week of camp. He made crowd-pleasing catches every day and showed little rust after nearly two years away from the game, first to dea...Latest news
